Who is FYI GUY?

Hi Everyone, It’s me Jeremy Rabe, your FYI GUY.  I am so glad you stopped by the website.

I’m hoping that once you see all the fun things here at FYIGUY.com, you’ll feel inspired to go do something creative today!

I just wanted to tell you a little more about myself and how I got started in Crafts and Design.

Family-1

My earliest memory of crafting/décor, was when I was about 9 years old and my Grandma needed some baskets decorated to hold her bathroom soaps.  So I went thru her craft supplies, found some faux flowers, a string of pink pearls, a hot glue gun and I got busy!  That is when I believe my addiction to crafting started.  When I picked up that Hot Glue gun for the first time, I was HOOKED!

Besides doing craft projects, I also loved design and home décor.

Family-2

My mom and dad were always excited to come home from work, because I would rearrange the furniture, almost daily.  They never knew what they’d come home to!  I’ve always loved playing with room layouts and furniture placement, hoping to ensure the space was utilized properly and most efficiently.  That led to doing home decor for family members, because not only was it a creative outlet and great experience, I would make a little money!

The first and most memorable renovation I ever did was for my Grandma, Norma.  When I was 16, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.   While she was in the Hospital having a double mastectomy, I was at her house, completely redecorating her bedroom.  I wanted her to have a beautiful space to recuperate.   I painted and wallpapered, added new curtains, bedding, blinds, artwork, and all the trimmings.   When she returned home a week later, from her hospital stay, I surprised her with a brand new bedroom.  I will never forget the look of joy on her face when she walked in the room.  As tears filled our eyes, she hugged me, and thanked me.  In that moment, I knew I had found my calling.

Grandma-Norma

As you will see from my FYI GUY episodes, I love turning trash into treasure.  My true passion is helping those on very tight budgets.  I grew up poor, and when you have little money for crafts, decorations and décor, it’s important to utilize all your creativity and think outside the box.

I’ve always used my own home as a guinea pig for design techniques and craft projects. I love trying to see what techniques work the best, and then share my experience and knowledge with others.

If you have any questions or need any advice, please email me.  Or feel free to share your great ideas with me, post pictures to the Facebook page and Twitter. (Or any one of the numerous social media sites I’m on.)  I love to get your feedback and get inspiration from your creativity!

Now, go Craft something!  And remember, keep it Fast, Easy and FUN!
